The Pritikin Program for Diet and Exercise, published in 1979, is known as the grandfather of diet books.  The program focuses on eating foods that are low in fat, high in fiber and getting lots of regular exercise to stop heart disease and stay healthy. These ideas at that time were shocking but they are now common knowledge.
